Seaside padded up the hill after Heatherdust and Ravenflight and came before a peak overlooking a huge moon and millions of stars-- the Moonpeak. He lay down, and found sleep coming to him easier than it ever had before.
He found himself at the Gathering place, except Silverpelt was illuminated more than ever before. the stars began to fall down, until they became cats. "Welcome, Seaside." a voice said. "Are you ready to receive your nine lives?"
"Y-yes..." Seaside said.
Two cats padded up. Seaside recognized them as Nightpaw, and Runningpaw, two apprentices that had appeared to him many times before. Nightpaw padded forward. "Welcome, Seaside. With this life, I give you agility. Use it to maneuver the difficult path of leadership."
Seaside felt a terrible pain coursing though him. Then, it stopped. He panted and felt weaker. Nightpaw stepped back.
Runningpaw padded up. "With this life I give you speed. Use it to outrun enemies, and to speed away from battles not able to be fought."
Once again, Seaside felt a pain, but he also felt the breeze whipping at his fur as he ran across a moor. The pain slowly faded.
A cat with spiky brown fur like a porcupine's stepped forward. "Porcupinepelt?" Seaside whispered.
"Yes, Seaside." Porcupinepelt said. "Though I was only part of StarClan for a small time, I am giving you your fourth life. With it I give you endurance. Use it to endure long leaf-bares and protect your Clan."
It was not as painful to Seaside, but it seem to last for moons. It went on, and Seaside realized he was enduring it. The pain faded, and Porcupinepelt stepped back.
A brown tabby stepped forward. "Hawkstar." Seaside whispered in surprise.
Hawkstar nodded. "For the time I knew you, you were a great warrior. With this life, I give you fierceness. Use it to defend your Clan against intruders."
Pain burned through Seaside so much that he thought he would turn into ash. The pain stopped, and Hawkstar padded back.
A black and white cat with a long tail stepped forward. "Hello, Seaside. I am one of your ancestors, Tallstar, leader of WindClan. With this life I give you loyalty. Use it to give each of your lives to the Clan to protect it."
A different pain flared up in Seaside. It felt like pure determination, and instead of weakening him, it gave him strength. Tallstar padded back.
An brown cat padded up. "My name is Barkface, Seaside. I served as WindClan's medicine cat for a long time. With this life I give you courage. Use it to defend your Clan, even if the darkest times arise."
More pain burned into Seaside again. Soon enough, it stopped, and Barkface stepped back.
A gray-blue cat padded up. "Hello, Seaside. I am Mistystar. I am also your ancestor, and I served as RiverClan leader a long time ago. With this life I give you humor. Use it to brighten up dark times, when your Clan is depressed."
For the first time, Seaside felt no pain. It felt... good, almost.
Another cat padded up. At first, Seaside thought it was Mistystar again, but she looked a little older. "Hello, Seaside. I am Bluestar, an ancient ThunderClan leader. With this life I give you strength. Use it to survive the hardships of leadership."
More pain coursed through Seaside. When it was over, Mistystar and Bluestar stepped back.
A cat padded forward. Seaside thought he was looking into a reflection, until the cat spoke. "Welcome, Seaside. I am not a Clan cat, but StarClan has granted me presence here temporarily, to give you your last life. You always were destined for something greater than I could ever give you. With your ninth life, I give you love. Use it to care for all of your Clan, and protect them."
Seaside was not expecting the horrible pain that came. He thought he would burn up there and then, until finally, it stopped.
"Wait!" Seaside tried to shout. "You're my mother... What's your name?" he said, as the blue she-cat faded, but there was no response.
Another cat padded up. It was Breezestar. "I hail you by your new name, Seastar. Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a leader, and StarClan grants you the guardianship of Breezestar. Defend it well; care for young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code; live each life with pride and dignity."
"Seastar! Seastar!" StarClan yowled, and they all faded, and Seastar found him back on the Moonpeak.
